Digital transformation is already well underway across the transportation industry. However, adopting more technology does not automatically solve project challenges.
According to the report, 84% of transportation leaders say poor data management impacts project delivery, while 40% say their organisations still struggle with siloed data. Poor interoperability can contribute to duplicated work, communication issues and costly rework.
Connecting technologies such as BIM and GIS can help teams bring design information and spatial context together, improving coordination and enabling potential issues to be identified earlier in the project lifecycle. The report notes that 85% of transportation leaders consider BIM and GIS convergence essential for project management.
AI is changing how transportation teams work
AI is also becoming increasingly important across the industry. The report found that 99% of transportation leaders believe AI adoption is necessary to remain competitive.
Rather than simply automating tasks, AI can give teams more time to focus on higher-value work. In fact, 84% of leaders surveyed say AI gives them time back to focus on other priorities, including improving project quality and solving more complex problems.
