ASt provides Integrated Workplace Management Solutions (IWMS), Computer-Aided Facility Management systems (CAFM) and Autodesk AEC solutions that help professionals deliver better customer service, significantly reduce costs and improve the productivity of their entire organisation.

Autodesk Fusion 360 and Autodesk Moldflow  is already successfully helping many engineers to design a diverse range of plastic products serving many different industries. It is pretty obvious where plastics can be found in most consumer product for its ease of moldability to different shapes. However the plastic industry is always and constantly changing due to rapid product advancement. There is always a demand for great products made of plastic.

As always, there are a lot of consumer product industry challenges faced by design engineers when needing to come up with a new product design, such as costs, aesthetics, product features, time to market, production volumes, global availability etc.

This then requires a robust understanding of the key aspects taken to produce a solid plastic component design. Engineers have to ensure that the function, fit and finish of their design is to a quality standard, moreover, also be able to choose the right material to keep costings low and allow recyclability. To further add in to the design requirements, it will be handy for engineers to also be able to visualise the styling, texture and aesthetics of their design before production.

This is where design prototyping comes into play and the use of digital simulation. Running a digital simulation of a product design allows for the exploration of options early in the design process. But did you know, with Autodesk , the manufacturing process can also be studied, validated and predicted. Imagine not only being able to have good control over your design but also the through the quality of the molding process?

“Autodesk supports a comprehensive set of offerings and a broad strategy in simulation that indeed meets the needs of companies seeking to embrace digital product development.” – CIMdata

Connection between design and manufacturability is vital in ensuring the efficiency of a product development. Having the right software resource will make a difference in this competitive market. With Autodesk software, design evaluations such as thickness uniformity, draft angles & undercuts , and visual defects can be performed reliably. Proceeding through into the manufacturing process,  Autodesk software allows for the study of assess manufacturability, fill confidence, material selection and gate locations.

Get Autodesk Moldflow Simulate to simulate the part and gate designs to ensure proper filling and packing to minimize or eliminate visual defects. Weld lines and sink marks can be optimised as well as the prediction of air traps, reducing the visual defects during design. Also, with the warpage, shrinkage, fibre orientation and core shift control analysis capabilities, Autodesk Moldflow can uncover and isolate primary causes for warpage and shrinkage before creating the mold.
