Reviewing large sets of construction drawings can be time-consuming and challenging. Missing sheets, inconsistent tags, and coordination errors can easily go unnoticed, potentially leading to costly rework and project delays.
What if you could identify potential drawing issues earlier, without spending hours manually checking every sheet?
With Bluebeam SmartReview, AI-powered drawing analysis helps teams identify potential issues, prioritise findings, and streamline the review process.
In this guide, we’ll explore how SmartReview works and how it can help your team improve drawing review efficiency.
What Is Bluebeam SmartReview?
Bluebeam SmartReview is an AI-powered feature in Bluebeam Revu that helps construction and design professionals review PDF drawing sets more efficiently.
Instead of manually searching through hundreds of pages, SmartReview analyses your drawings and presents potential issues in an interactive dashboard.
Its key capabilities include:
- Document Health Checks: Identify missing sheets, blank sheets, duplicate sheet numbers, and other document inconsistencies.
- Gridline Checks: Detect inconsistent grid distances across drawing sets.
- Tag Checks: Identify inconsistencies involving supported grid and door tags.
- Interactive Dashboard: Organise identified issues by priority, type, and status, helping teams focus on areas that need attention.
By highlighting potential problems earlier, SmartReview helps reduce manual review effort and supports better project coordination.
How to Use SmartReview in Bluebeam Revu
Getting started with SmartReview is straightforward.
Step 1: Start a SmartReview Analysis
Open Bluebeam Revu, navigate to the Batch menu, and select SmartReview.
Give your review a name and add the PDF drawings you want to analyse. You can select multiple files from your open documents or file explorer.
Once your files are uploaded, click Continue to begin the analysis.
Step 2: Review and Prioritise Issues
After processing, SmartReview displays an Analysis Overview dashboard showing identified issues across your drawing set.
You can filter findings by issue type, priority, or status to quickly identify areas that require attention.
For example, if SmartReview identifies missing referenced sheets, you can filter those issues and review each instance without manually searching through the entire drawing set.
Step 3: Navigate to Identified Issues
Select Issue Mitigation to explore the findings in detail.
SmartReview allows you to jump directly to the relevant location in your drawings, with automatically generated markups highlighting potential problems.
This makes it easier to investigate issues and determine what needs to be corrected.
Step 4: Export Findings for Further Review
Once you’ve reviewed the results, you can export the analysed drawings and open them in Bluebeam Revu.
The identified issues appear in the Markups List, with additional information such as issue type, package, and risk level.
Your team can then sort, filter, and manage findings as part of the existing review workflow.
Why Use SmartReview for Construction Drawing Reviews?
Manual drawing reviews are essential, but they can also be repetitive and resource-intensive.
SmartReview helps teams:
- Save time: Reduce the effort spent manually searching for drawing inconsistencies.
- Catch issues earlier: Identify potential problems before they contribute to downstream rework.
- Improve visibility: View and prioritise findings in one interactive dashboard.
- Streamline collaboration: Use structured markups to support clearer communication and follow-up.
- Focus on higher-value work: Spend less time hunting for errors and more time moving projects forward.
SmartReview supports professional drawing reviews rather than replacing the need for human judgement.
